How Spark Hire screens your resume (and how to get through)

Spark Hire runs one-way video interviews: you get a link, read each question, and record your answer on your own time before a deadline. The employer sets the think time, number of takes and time limit for each question. They do not see anything until you finish, or how many takes you used.

How to tell you’re on Spark Hire

  • An email invites you to a one-way video interview on sparkhire.com

How it screens you

  • One-way video interviews reviewed by the hiring team, sometimes after a resume screen.

What gets you through

  • Prepare 3 STAR stories that map to the role’s must-haves.
  • Keep answers to 60–90 seconds.

How does a Spark Hire one-way video interview work?

You open the interview link, and for each question you see its settings first: think time, number of takes, and answer time limit, all chosen by the employer. You record, then submit. Once a response is submitted you cannot redo it, even with takes left. Skipping submits a blank answer and the company is notified.

You can pause and come back through the same link as many times as you need, as long as you submit before the deadline. The company does not see your videos until you have finished, and it never sees how many times you attempted a question.

Practice questions are available, and practice videos are not saved or shared with the company. You cannot view the real questions in advance.

How should I prepare for a Spark Hire interview?

Prepare three short stories using situation, task, action and result that map to the job’s must-haves, and practice them out loud until each fits comfortably inside the question’s time limit. Use the practice question to test your camera, light and sound. Check each question’s time limit before you start recording.

  • Use the latest Google Chrome on a computer. Firefox also works. On Android use Chrome, and on iPhone use Safari.
  • Have at least 2 Mbps upload and download speed.
  • If you use an iPad, turn off “Request Desktop Website”.
  • Frame yourself at eye level with light in front of you, not behind.

I want to withdraw or know my status
