How can you tell if a job uses Taleo?
The address contains company.taleo.net, usually followed by /careersection/. You are asked to sign in or create an account with a user name, password and security question, and the application runs over several pages with Next and Save as Draft buttons. Taleo is different from Oracle’s newer Recruiting Cloud.
Taleo career sites have a My Account area for your login details and a My Submissions page that lists every application you started or sent to that company.
What does a Taleo application look like?
Taleo applications are multi-page. You start by uploading or pasting your resume so Taleo can prefill fields, then complete personal information, work history and education, answer prescreening questions, attach documents, complete optional disclosures, review and submit. You can save a draft and come back.
On mobile, some Taleo sites let you paste your resume as plain text. Oracle’s docs say the system parses the pasted text and uses it to prefill the application, which is a good fallback when a file will not upload.
File rules are set by each employer. Oracle’s default maximum attachment size is 1 MB per file, employers can raise it (up to 5 MB per file in some packages), a record can hold up to 10 files, and the employer chooses which formats are allowed from options like PDF, Word, RTF and TXT.
How does Taleo screen applicants?
Taleo prescreening uses disqualification questions, required competencies and weighted questions. Oracle calls the combination ACE prescreening. Wrong answers to disqualification questions can automatically disqualify you, and candidates whose answers meet the employer’s threshold are flagged as ACE candidates so recruiters see them first.
So the questions decide a lot. Read each one slowly, answer truthfully, and make sure your resume backs up the competencies you claim. A recruiter who opens an ACE-flagged profile will check.
Recruiters can also search parsed resume text. Plain, standard wording for job titles, tools and certifications makes your profile easier to find.
What do Taleo application statuses mean?
Oracle’s default submission statuses are Draft (you have not finished the application), Completed (you finished and submitted it) and Withdrawn (you withdrew it). Completed does not mean the job is filled or that you were rejected. Employers can rename statuses for each step of their hiring process, so you may see other labels.
Whether you see any status at all depends on the employer. Oracle notes that showing submission status to candidates is an option the employer must turn on, and some do not.
- Draft: started but not submitted. Open it from My Submissions and finish it.
- Completed: submitted. The recruiter may not have looked yet.
- Withdrawn: you withdrew it.
- Custom labels like “Under Consideration” are the employer’s own wording for a step in their process.
What resume format works best for Taleo?
Keep it very plain: one column, standard headings, no tables, text boxes, headers or images, and a text-based file small enough for the employer’s limit, ideally under 1 MB. After the upload, check every prefilled field and retype anything Taleo mangled before moving to the next page.
- Export a PDF or .docx without embedded fonts or images to keep the file small.
- Write each job as title, employer, location and dates on separate lines.
- Keep a plain-text copy of your resume ready to paste if uploads fail.
