How do recruiters search LinkedIn?

Recruiters use LinkedIn’s search and LinkedIn Recruiter to filter by job title, skills, location, years of experience, current company and keywords. Then they skim the profiles that come up. If your profile doesn’t use the words they search, you don’t appear at all.

What should your headline say?

Your headline is searched and shown in every result. Use the title you want and two or three core skills, not a slogan:

  • “Senior Product Designer · Design systems · B2B SaaS”
  • “Data Analyst · SQL, Python, Tableau · Fintech”

What else should you fill in?

  • Current title written as the standard job title (add the internal title in the description if it differs).
  • Location set to where you want to work; recruiters filter on it.
  • Skills: add the skills from your target postings and pin the top three.
  • About: three short paragraphs with what you do, proof with numbers, and what you’re looking for.
  • Open to Work: set the titles and locations. You can show it to recruiters only.

Does LinkedIn activity matter?

Being active helps people find and remember you, but you don’t need to post every day. A thoughtful comment on posts in your field, or one post a month about your work, keeps you visible to your network.

Frequently asked questions

Does a LinkedIn profile need to match my resume?

The titles and dates should match. The profile can be broader; the resume is tailored to each job.

Can Screenpass read my LinkedIn?

Yes, from LinkedIn’s own “Save to PDF” or your data export ZIP. We never scrape LinkedIn or log in on your behalf.

Check your resume against the screen before you apply.
